Kidney Health Australia is encouraging everyone to get their family and friends together during the BBQ season, not only to have fun with the red theme, but also to raise funds and awareness in the fight against kidney disease.

“We hope that the red-themed BBQ will remind as many Australians as possible who are at-risk will make an appointment to see a GP to get a kidney health check,” Anne Wilson, CEO of Kidney Health Australia said.

Kidney disease has no warning signs which means a person can lose up to 90% of their kidney function before they realise they are sick.

Ms Wilson said we hope the Big Red BBQ would highlight the disturbing fact that so many people are at risk.

“Kidney disease can and does go undetected and unrecognised in the Australian adult population,” she said

Ms Wilson said that, if detected early, in many cases kidney disease could be treated and well managed.
